We had a great clear out of the studio spaces the other week prior to having a wedding in the Studios – 90 people eating, dancing and generally having a good time. It was the wedding of good friend Katrina to her partner of 17 years, Adrian. Katrina and I were at school together and also worked for many years side-by-side at Dartington. It was an honour to have the wedding at Coombe with so many great friends and a great excuse to clear out the spaces and install our new BAR!
Why a bar in the studios? Well it’s part Bar and part tea/coffee making kitchen. Anyone that’s been on a Coombe course has experienced the milk run up to the accommodation to get milk for tea break and any artists know that when you’re working having a cup of tea or coffee is an essential part of the day! So I decided it was high time we had a suitable facility – fridge, sink, storage space – the works, for tea breaks and given that we’re fully licensed, why not have a bar for events and perhaps even the odd mid-week cocktail!
My wonderful husband Martin got to work making the new bar top which is in itself a work of art and we duly christened it at the wedding.
I’m now getting the studios ready for our ceramics course with Laurel Keeley starting on Sunday… recycling clay, cleaning up the tools, re-hanging the gallery and getting excited about what will be made this coming week.
