Kate Marshall

Kate Marshall LinocuttingLiving and working in Devon, Kate graduated from Goldsmiths in 2004 with a BA in Fine Art and History, Live Art performance often feature in her shows; including the 2006 Liverpool Biennial, which received coverage on BBC 2 and her debut solo show in London in 2007 which was singled out by the Sunday Times as a must see.

Kate has been asked to participate in fundraisers for women’s rights in Mexico alongside Paula Rego and The Royal Society of Portrait Painters and for the Prince’s Trust at Bonham’s. Kate’s primarily figurative work flirts between painting and drawing. Her self-consciously decorative pieces address the ironies and contradiction of “high”and “low” art and depictions of the sexualized female image in popular culture.

I am open to creating art works in any medium, my work is research based and is currently mostly inspired by the sea.  Conceptual/fine art meets craft is how I would sum up my practice; I take great pleasure in the particularities of each of the mediums I use and am passionately hands on.  Using unusual or poetically appropriate materials is a key feature of my work; site specfically gathered ash, charcoal, mud, sand or stones, beachcombed fabric or even cowshit.

Kate has exhibited at Coombe Gallery Dartmouth and regularly exhibits in London and internationally.

A master of line, form and colour Kate fell in love with printmaking in 2008 and quickly mastered the techniques that she is passionate about sharing during her courses.
