This 4 day course will focus on methods to achieve vibrant and expressive mark making in the landscape using soft pastel as the primary medium in a mixed media process.

Sarah Bee has been a member of The Pastel Society, and part of the Federation of British Artists, for almost 20 years.

During this time she has made it her mission to lift pastel painting from the doldrums of a long held dull and traditional reputation into the deserved spotlight of inspiring contemporary art.

Sarah has been teaching at Coombe for the past few years and is an exceptional tutor, generous with her skills and enabling many participants to progress in their work. Join Sarah on this course and have guidance to the limitless and varied mark making opportunities possible within her methods.

Achieve energetic work in the studio as an interpretation of sketches, words and information gathered outside in the stunning South Devon landscape.

Sarah will demonstrate regularly, and offer frequent individual tuition.

EXPERIENCE LEVEL: This course is designed for anyone with some painting experience who wants to spend some time moving away from representational colour in the landscape, encouraging exciting interpretational work using soft pastel as the primary medium in a mixed media process.

OUTLINE SCHEDULE: Sunday Residents Arrive 5pm - Welcome drinks and non-residents arrive 7pm, Dinner 8pm

Monday-Thursday: Breakfast 8.30 - Tuition 9.30-5.00pm (Lunch 1-2pm) Dinner 7pm

Thursday 5pm Course closes for non residents. Dinner 7pm for residents.

Friday: Residents Breakfast 8.30pm, Depart 9.30pm

ACCOMMODATION OPTIONS: Residential and non-residential spaces available. NB residents are not required to share bedrooms, see accommodation for more info.

COST: £690 + VAT for residential which covers all your tuition, accommodation and food from arrival on Sunday through to departure after breakfast on Friday. Non-residential fees are £553 + VAT include all tuition, welcome drinks on Sunday and all lunches.

HOW MANY PEOPLE ON THE COURSE? Min 6 max 12 to allow the tutor to give everyone enough attention and time on the press.

SEASON

June at Coombe is a glorious time of year. It’s starting to get warm, loads of flowers and things growing in the veg patch. We will be in the studio and going out sketching down the lanes and at nearby locations. You’ll also get to work in the comfort of the light and airy the studios. On warmer days you’l have lunch outside in the courtyard and the longer evenings can be spent relaxing here at Coombe.
