Volunteering at Coombe

I took the opportunity to volunteer at Coombe Farm Studios these past few months because I saw it as just that - an opportunity, to spend my limited time in an environment that would be welcoming, nurturing and inspiring! Coombe is all of these and more. During my time there, with Lara, between the pottery and print hub, and among the gardens, I made significant steps back into my own art practice after four full years at home, with my young children. Not so long ago this felt like a very imposing mountain to have to climb. However, thanks in part to my time very well spent with Lara, the resident artists, the students and the most beautiful surroundings, this is no longer the case. Thank you Coombe for gently welcoming, nurturing and inspiring me, and of course for making me laugh.”

Coombe is a tiny family business, we’ve been running for 35+ years. We work with freelance artists who teach on site throughout the year, as well as freelance staff who work on the land and in the kitchen preparing delicious meals for all our residential courses. It’s a busy place, with lots of artists coming and going. Many of them returning year-on-year - including our tutors, participants and the partners we work with to deliver our artist residencies (for performing artists making work about climate change, migration and human rights).

If you’d like to be part of the community and support what we do, there are volunteering opportunities to work on the land (gardening, growing, building) or in our studios (setting up for courses, tidying and arranging, observing classes and more) and in our shop (assisting, stock taking, selling).

Fill in your details below. I will then arrange for you to pop in and see me and discuss how Volunteer time at Coombe could work best for you.
